Description

This rare and ornate Armenian-language devotional book is a tribute to the “modest and kind Esayian mother, full of grace, noble and gentle, of the revered Esayian brothers.” Likely a personal or family hymnal or prayer book printed in Constantinople, it reflects the refined poetic style typical of 19th-century Armenian religious and memorial literature.

Its compact design, embossed red cloth cover, and heartfelt content suggest it was intended for private reading or as a dedication to a virtuous woman of high standing—perhaps a matriarchal figure in the Esayian family.

Key Features:

  • Title in classical Armenian, richly honoring a virtuous Armenian mother.

  • Likely printed by Համասասպեան եւ Բրօրներ (Hamazaspian and Brothers) in Constantinople.

  • Red embossed cloth binding, pocket-sized for personal devotion.

  • Illustrated with a detailed woodcut of the Resurrection of Christ.

  • Contains hymns or memorial texts in Western Armenian.

Condition:
Good antique condition. The binding shows signs of wear and tear, with spine separation and some paper loss. However, the text remains complete and legible, with aged but stable paper.
