Description
This rare silver dirham, dating from the third reign of Mamluk Sultan al-Nasir Nasir al-Din Muhammad I (1293-1341 AD), is a fascinating historical artifact. Struck between AH 709-741 (1310-1341 AD), this 19 mm, 2.23-gram coin features a unique overstrike on a takvorin originally issued by Levon IV (1320-1341), King of Cilician Armenia. The coin’s obverse and reverse fields display partial titles of Muhammad I alongside the Shahada, revealing a striking example of intercultural numismatic history.
