Surrounding the portrait is the legend IMP C C VAL DIOCLETIANVS P F AVG, which stands for Imperator Caesar Caius Valerius Diocletianus Pius Felix Augustus. This title emphasizes his status as commander and revered emperor.

Reverse
The reverse depicts the Roman god Genius, standing left, nude except for a chlamys (cloak) over his shoulder. He holds a patera (libation bowl) in his right hand and a cornucopia in his left, symbolizing abundance and prosperity. The inscription reads GENIO POPVLI ROMANI, translating to To the Genius of the Roman People. Below the figure is the mint mark HOS, identifying the coin as struck at the Heraclea mint.
