Constantinople Mint

This bronze follis was struck under Emperor Theophilus, one of the last great iconoclast rulers of the Byzantine Empire. The obverse features a detailed three-quarter portrait of Theophilus standing, crowned and holding a labarum and globus cruciger—symbols of divine authority and imperial power. The reverse bears the legend "ΘЄOFILЄ AVς OVSTЄ SVҺICAS" in four lines, affirming his status as faithful emperor and servant of Christ.

A striking example with sharp detail and an attractive patina, this coin offers a tangible connection to the turbulent Iconoclast era of Byzantine history. Ideal for collectors of early medieval coinage and Byzantine imperial portraiture.
